Storyland Yoga: Yoga for Kids and Families Review and Giveaway

Sponsored by Tomoson.com
I love staying active and spending time with family, but sometimes what I’d like to have happen and what does happen are two different things!  One such occasion is when I signed SAP and I up for Yoga at the YMCA!  With all the distractions around SAP wanted to run around instead of doing yoga….it just didn’t work out!  She did LOVE doing the animal poses though and copying mommy “doing yoga” so when I had the opportunity to review Playful Planet’s Storyland Yoga I thought it was the answer to our problems!

Storyland Yoga is a kids yoga DVD for children 3-8 years old that helps engage children into doing yoga through an interesting story!  It is a great idea and I found that although SAP is not even 3 years old yet she could easily understand, follow along, and it even kept he attention, which is a huge deal.

The first time I used Storyland Yoga I did the yoga with SAP in our living room.  Since it was in a familiar setting SAP was not distracted at all and since it was on her beloved TV she paid attention!  The instructor of the yoga sessions on the DVD is Ahmed Fahmy and he does a great job of keeping the feel of the Yoga session upbeat, exciting and interesting for the kids.  He tells a story and incorporates yoga positions simplified for kids into the story and the DVD also uses sound and picture to bring the story alive!  Our little ones have such great imagination it’s wonderful to see them use it instead of being couch potatoes!

This was my favorite position to do with SAP since we could do it together!

I especially loved that it not only kept SAP’s attention and entertained her, but the stories themselves and how eco-friendly oriented they are!  Such as “Save the Whale” teaching about the ocean and our ocean friends, and “Condor Trek” teaching the kids about endangered animals and birds!.  A wonderful way to do so, the kids don’t even know they’re learning!

A scene from “Save the Whale” story in Storyland Yoga!  They really set the scene in both “stories”.

It was interesting to see how SAP did the  yoga poses and interpreted what was being shown or talked about, after a while she got tired of doing her own yoga and started to come up with her own!  So instead of being a shark, mommy would be doing the “shark” pose and SAP decided she wanted to “ride the shark”!  Instead of doing Tree pose SAP would be a squirrel climbing the tree.  She came up with some interesting ideas!

SAP wanted to “ride the Mommy Shark!”.  Luckily she doesn’t weigh a ton!

Overall I was very impressed with this DVD and feel it will be a favorite of SAP’s, she’s already asking me for “Mommy Yoga please!” instead of her beloved Blue’s Clues or Dora!  I very much hope to see another storyland yoga DVD come out in the future with more stories and fun for the kids!

What SAPsMaMa Loves About Storyland Yoga:

  • Simple and engaging enough for young children, perfect for 3-8 or even as young as 2 like SAP is!
  • The stories incorporate many eco-friendly lessons for our kids
  • Is fun for kids and gets them off the couch and active!
  • Introduces Yoga at a young age for our children to gain the benefits of yoga: calming them, giving them greater focus and increased clarity
  • Packaging for the DVD is of 100% Recycled material!

Suggestions For Improvement:

  • More stories!  My daughter is falling in love with Storyland Yoga and I’m afraid she will wear out the stories and get tired of them, I want to offer a variety of stories so she can do yoga as often as she wants without getting bored!

Meet Storyland Yoga

Storyland Yoga is a fun-filled adventure that infuses children with an eco-conscious message.  Two unique stories,  “Save the Whale” and “Condor Trek” engage a child’s imagination through storytelling.  Kid’s learn yoga postures by becoming part of the story and imitating animals. Yoga is great exercise and helps to calm children giving them greater focus and increased clarity.  Storyland Yoga is equally fun for parents and family members who can benefit from yoga, while enjoying ‘organic time’ with their children.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

  1. Sarah Hull says:

I think that my son would love Storyland Yoga because he can already do some yoga poses (that he just figured out on his own) and I think he would love learning some new poses. He is so energetic, I think that this could help him focus on his movement a little more as well as it being great for exercise. I also enjoy yoga and would love to have something to do together that was geared towards him.

  2. I think Monkey Girl would love this. We downloaded a short video to my tablet where they do a few yoga poses and now she loves doing downward dog 🙂

  3. This looks awesome and like it is a lot of fun, D and I do yoga on the Wii, but this looks much more kid friendly! We would love this.

  4. I think TJ would like it because he loves to exercise with mommy! My older 2 loved yoga in preschool too!
